RADIO GA GA!!!

Here is a little pic of “moi” looking a tad nervous before my radio debut!!!! So, the day finally came and I was perfect that morning, dropped the princess off to her Nonna, scribbled down a few pointers and headed into town and then the panic began. I got really nervous when I arrived in town, I popped into Olio e Farina and Susan just laughed at my white panic stricken face, I stuffed a few Italian grapes into me which she is selling for 2 weeks as it is picking time in Italy and they really are delicious!! I had an hour to kill so I headed into Sage Cafe for a coffee but opted for a big glass of chardonnay instead - who says alcohol doesn’t calm the nerves:)

The show actually starts at 3pm but they were having a fire drill in the building so all the staff were outside when I arrived, while waiting I met my ex-butcher who has just taken over the shop beside RTE and he started talking to me about buying meat off him again, I don’t think I actually heard a word he said, I probably agreed to take his meat at a premium price, he was probably thinking “wow Lorraine has really mellowed out after the baby”:). The fire drill eventually finished and I headed up to the RTE studios, there was a really cool looking band heading up at the same time and they were actually in the studio next to me playing live!! I was put into the little room that you see above at 3.10pm and left alone with my massive headphones listening to the show. Every couple of minutes someone kept saying “HELLO” and I couldn’t hear the show. I kept thinking would she ever shut up or I won’t be able to hear the segment and I’ll miss my part. Eventually the receptionist came in with the phone to her ear asking me was someone trying to talk to me from Dublin through the headphones and would I please answer back - OOOOOOOPS!!!!

Paulo came on and I got myself ready and wasn’t nervous at all and I waited and waited and waited!! While I waited he talked about cream in Carbonara and how restaurants use the excuse that customers want it etc etc and I was like “o shxt that’s what I’m going to say”!!! Eventually they brought me in and it was actually fine, they were both very nice, he only asked me half the questions from the brief that I had and I think I answered them OK and didn’t use “like” or “am”!!! After the last question they went to a recording of another Italian restaurant so I just sat and waited for him to say Thanks and Goodbye but nothing happened so I just sat there not knowing what to do!! About 10 mins later the producer came on and thanked me and apologised that they had to finish and I went on my merry way!!

I rang Bru straight away to get the synopsis as I couldn’t even remember a word I said and I got the “thumbs up” so all was good!! I have to say I really enjoyed it and loads of people heard it, even the postman said it to me the next day so there has been great publicity for the shop and that’s the main thing!! Are we still going to serve cream in our carbonara - yep, until the day people start to ask for it without!! We actually had carbonara on Monday and here is a little pic to show that we don’t eat it with cream and the recipe is here!!!

BUON APPETITO!!!

p.s. if you have nothing better to do and want to hear it just go to the Mooney Show and click on Wednesday and fast forward to 1hr 6 mins!!

p.p.s. 2 very good friends of ours have started a financial blog of sorts, does anyone need 10 good reasons to buy property in Dubai???? If I had the money I wouldn’t even need 1!!!! There are some great articles and great advice so check it out here. Watch out Mr Hobbs, Jonsey has arrived:)

GRAZIE TASTE ITALIA!!

I sent an email to Taste Italia magazine a while back regarding an article they did on Italian food in the UK just giving my opinion on Italian food in Ireland. I never in a million years expected them to write back or print my letter but they did both. They printed my email in the letters section in last month’s edition and this month they have featured us at the back in the deli section. They’ve included a photo and a little blog about me and Bru!

For those of you not familiar with the magazine, it’s a Uk publication and it focuses completely on Italian food(obviously) it’s great for Italophiles. I buy it every month and cook a lot of recipes from it and posted about a couple - the fabulous “Torta di Pomodoro e Ricotta” and the lovely Lemon Roast Chicken Pieces. Myself and Bru drool over the recipes every month especially the desserts. I keep dropping hints to Laura in the hope she might make them and bring me a sample to La Cucina but it hasn’t happened yet;) I live in hope, Peach and Mascarpone tart - mmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Ciao

GRAZIE FOOD & WINE!!

We got a mention in this month’s Food & Wine magazine, the other girls were mentioned too -  Laura, Val and Deborah. It’s great to see Irish food blogs getting a little recognition as there aren’t that many compared to other countries. They said that we own the Piccola, we don’t YET!!:)

Thanks guys!

Lorraine and Bruno.

GRAZIE JOHN AND SALLY!!

YAHOOOOOOO!!! We’re in the Bridgestone guide, it means such a lot when you get recognised for what you do. We get so excited when La Cucina is mentioned anywhere, we’re like 2 kids and I found out today we’re not alone. I called into The Sage Cafe this evening and they were just as excited as we are, they even have their plaque on the wall already, we haven’t even ordered ours yet. I didn’t even know the book was out so I skipped the coffee and drove the princess in her Maclaren buggy like a formula 1 car to Easons as it was nearly closing time.

This blogging world just amazes me everyday, Val was involved in a lot of the reviews which came about because of her blog and I just read that Kieren is after getting a book deal for an ice-cream book - congrats guys.

I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to John and Sally Mckenna for listing La Cucina, it means a lot!!:)

GRAZIE!!

I just want to write a quick post to let you know about this great new Limerick magazine. When I saw it on the magazine stand I actually did a double take as I never expected to see a magazine of this standard just about Limerick.

It really is good, there is so much content about our little city focusing on all the great things Limerick has to offer -style, fashion, news, food, social diary and some really good features on the development and the positive future of the city. The best part of the magazine this month is page 11 of course where “italian foodies” get a nice mention - Thanks Sinead!!

So, all you Limerick citizens get down to your local newsagent and purchase a copy and support something new and exciting about our city!!

We were in the Limerick Independant a couple of weeks ago too!!

GRAZIE LIMERICK LEADER!!!!

Here’s a rare picture of me doing a bit of work!

A lot of people obviously read the Leader with the amount of hits I have gotten over the last few days. Just want to say a big thank you to Maz at www.styletreaty.com and squid at www.limerickblogger.org for all the support they’ve given to italianfoodies. You’d swear I’d won an oscar!!! But it is nice to be recognised especially as we only started in February and the blog does take a bit of time and effort. The only problem I’m having is that I am pretty bad at the technology side  of things and it’s driving me crazy!!! If there is anyone out there who can tell me how to add links, improve my photos etc I would be very grateful. This blog is serious stuff now!!!

I’d just like to say a big welcome to all the newbie lurkers and feel free to ask questions about any of the recipes or post a comment if you make any of the dishes. It’s great to get feedback as to how difficult or easy they are to follow, sourcing ingredients or just general opinion or chit chat. Enjoy and Bon Appetito!!

Ciao
